Isaac turned back to me for a minute. "Do you remember, back at Tay's eighteenth birthday party, when I told you about the dreams?"
"Mmhmm," I murmured, still in awe of the romance of their story.
"Well, it actually turned out pretty much like I had dreamed it would. I was backstage with Tay and Zac, meeting the fans, signing autographs...you know, the usual thing. And I was starting to get really impatient with the whole deal. I mean, there I was, signing autographs, while the girl of my dreams was leaving! Or so I thought."
I thought I knew where he was heading with this. "Let me guess...it was just then that Jamie showed up, right?"
"Yep. I was just about to just give up and call it quits, regardless. All of a sudden, I looked ahead to the next person in line...and I have never been so happy as I was at that moment. It was her. From her dark curls to the bluish-green of her eyes, I knew her, and she knew me, I could tell. I hurriedly finished signing the CD cover for the person before her, then turned to her. She smiled as I did...what a gorgeous smile hers was!...and said, 'Hi, Isaac. I'm Jamie'...just like in my dream. I shook her hand and said, 'Hello, Jamie', my eyes not once leaving hers. I could think of nothing except that I had found her. Just then, Tay came up to me and said that we needed to be finishing up with the fans. Then he noticed Jamie. Zac came over as well, and I introduced them both to Jamie. After a few minutes of talking and picture-taking, one of the security guards came over and said we really needed to go. So, reluctantly, I said goodbye to Jamie. As she was leaving, I pulled her over for a second and asked her for her number, which she gave me. I told her I'd call as soon as I could, and then she left."
"Isaac called the very next day," said Jamie. "I couldn't believe it was him at first, although I did have a feeling right before I picked up the phone. We talked for a while, but the subject of dreams never did come up. I guess neither of us knew how to begin. But a few weeks later, we were talking on the phone again, and the subject of dreams came up. I was actually the first one to bring it up. I had wanted to since the beginning, of course, to see if he had been having them, but I didn't want to just say it outright."
"But I was feeling the same way," said Isaac, "wanting to tell her about the dreams but not knowing if she had had them. But I just didn't know how to begin."
"But I finally thought of a way," said Jamie. "We had been talking about something, probably something relating to the tour, when I asked him how it felt to be living his dream."
Isaac smiled. "She put special emphasis on the word 'dream', and that was when I knew that she had been having the dreams. I replied, 'It's amazing,' and then there was a pause. After a minute or so, I said to her softly, 'But living yours is even better.'"
"After that," said Jamie, "we just talked and talked. We told each other everything...about all the dreams and signs, everything that had happened since the beginning. About a year later, I was feeling kinda down. Isaac hadn't called me in several weeks, and I was really worried. It was my nineteenth birthday, so I was really hoping to hear from him. But I didn't. I got home that evening and walked inside, prepared to spend a lonely evening studying. But I had hardly gotten settled when the doorbell rang. I got up to answer it, only to get the shock of my life! Isaac Hanson was standing there outside my door. I couldn't believe my eyes. I asked him if he'd like to come in, but he said he just wanted to ask me something. 'Go ahead,' I said. He smiled. 'Will you go out with me?' he asked. I felt my heart pounding. It was finally happening! My dreams were all coming true! I smiled and said, 'I'd love to.' He took me out to this really romantic restaurant, where we ate supper. While we ate, Isaac told me he was staying for a few days. I asked him what about the band, but he said they were taking a short vacation, each of them off to different parts of the country. Later that night, Isaac walked me to my door. 'I had a wonderful time,' he said, and I responded likewise. We were silent for a moment, and then Isaac leaned down...and kissed me. It was the best day I'd ever had, and I dreamed about him all that night."
"Over the next few days," said Isaac, "we were together at every possible moment. All too soon, I had to go back to Tulsa. I kissed Jamie goodbye and told her that I'd see her as soon as I could."
"I was upset when he left again, of course," said Jamie, "but I reminded myself that he'd said we'd be together again soon. I waited impatiently for them to finish recording yet another album and start another tour. Finally, after two years of waiting, it happened. Their announced tour dates included, once again, a stop in St. Louis. I couldn't wait. After what seemed like eternity but was really only a few months, it was finally the day of the concert. I had gotten a ticket immediately, of course, so I had actually managed to get a front row seat, which I had failed to do at the last concert. This concert was so different from the other one. From the start of the very first song, I could feel Isaac's eyes on me. Oh, not nonstop, of course...he still hadn't broken the news about me to the public...but he made sure to catch my eye at least once during each and every song. And when he sang More Than Anything, he was looking straight at me throughout the song. After the show, I went over to the gates leading to backstage. I didn't have a MOE card anymore...I had figured that since Isaac was keeping me up to date anyway, there was no need to spend twenty dollars a year on the magazines. So I was standing there, wishing I could somehow get backstage, when a security guard came out. He noticed me standing there, and he came over and told me that Isaac had asked him to find me. My heart singing, I followed him backstage to join Isaac."
Once again, Isaac took up the story. "As I waited for Jamie to arrive, I was so nervous. Excited, yes, but also nervous. I intended for this to be a special night, since it was Jamie's 21st birthday, and I knew just how to make it so. The meet-and-greet was already over, so I had nothing to do but wait. As she finally came in the room, I couldn't stop myself. I stood up, flew over to her, took her in my arms, and kissed her. After greetings and happy birthday's had been exchanged, I asked her if she'd follow me for a minute. As much as I loved my brothers, I still didn't want them present at that time. I led Jamie to the next room and shut the door. Turning back to Jamie, I said simply, 'I love you.' She smiled, then said softly, 'I love you, too.' That response made my next act easier for me. Looking deep into her eyes, I got down on one knee and took out the small velvet box I'd been carrying around all day. 'Jamie,' I said softly, 'will you marry me?'"
"I couldn't speak at first," said Jamie. "I couldn't do anything. I was so shocked at Isaac's proposal. I mean, of course I loved him, but I'd only known him for three years, and I hadn't seen him much during all that time. I didn't know what to say. Just then, I heard a clap of thunder. You know I've always loved storms and that I wanted to be proposed to in one. So I decided that the thunder must have been a sign that it was right. Smiling back up at Isaac, I said simply, 'Yes.'"
