Meanwhile in the other room, Taylor was sitting on his bed with his head in his hands. "How could this have happened?" he moaned. "She was right...she was right the whole time...and I treated her like dirt. What am I gonna do?" he pleaded, turning to Jamie.
Jamie knew she couldn't speak her true thoughts...that Taylor may have just lost his last chance to be with Monica. She knew Monica had liked him, but after what he did, she wasn't sure anymore. But she hoped that Monica would give him another chance...she knew they were meant to be together. Now, however, Jamie smiled sympathetically at Taylor. "Taylor, you're just gonna have to give her a little time. She never stays mad long." Jamie crossed her fingers that she was right this time. Monica had never stayed mad at her, it was true, or even gotten mad at her for that matter, but then, she had never done anything like Taylor had just done.
Taylor sighed. "I hope you're right, Jamie. I don't think I can bear it if she hates me again...not after all this, not after I realized how much I really do love her. I just...I just wish she liked me, even just a little. Anything would be better than her hating me."
At that moment, Jamie really wanted to reveal Monica's feelings for him. But she had promised, and she never broke a promise. Taylor would have to wait.
Jamie stood up finally. "I'm gonna go talk to Monica now." She walked down the hall and paused at the door to the other room. Quietly she opened the door and entered.
Monica and Isaac were still sitting on one of the beds. Isaac looked up quickly when he heard the door open. He got up and went over to Jamie. "How is he?" he asked quietly.
"He'll be okay," she replied, just as quietly. "He's pretty upset, though. Why don't you go talk to him, okay?"
"Don't you think Monica should talk to him?"
"Oh, definitely. I just want to talk to her first...you know, find out how she's feeling right now. I wouldn't want her, or Taylor, feeling any worse than they already are."
"Yeah, you're right about that. Okay, I'll go talk to him."
He left the room, and Jamie went over to the bed where Monica was still sitting. "Monica?" she asked carefully.
Monica looked up, but didn't say anything. Jamie sat down next to her. "Moni, he didn't mean it. He didn't believe that Ike and I had the same dream."
Monica scowled. "I told him that! He didn't believe me, so why would he believe you?"
"Moni, I know you don't want to hear this, but I think he didn't believe you because he still thinks you hate him. You really do need to tell him how you feel."
Monica stood up suddenly. "He already knows how I feel about him. I was right from the beginning...he is a jerk! I can't believe I almost fell for him. One thing's for sure, though...it won't happen again. I will never trust Taylor Hanson again!" She ran from the room, slamming the door behind her.
"Monica!" Jamie cried, but it was too late. Monica's footsteps were already going downstairs. She ran a hand through her hair and looked out the window, hoping she could solve this and hoping Isaac was having better luck with Taylor.
But he wasn't. Isaac had entered the room, watching Taylor throw pillows everywhere. "This one is my stupid reason for not believing her," he mumbled, throwing his arm back. Isaac watched Taylor turn to the window and look out and stop. He went to Taylor's side.
Taylor was watching Monica crying in the back yard below. "Taylor, you need to talk to her," Isaac urged gently. "This is a silly misunderstanding that you two can correct."
"Will you come with me?" he asked.
"I'll get Jamie and we'll walk with you, but you are doing the talking." Taylor nodded.
Isaac jogged across the hall and poked his head into Jamie and Monica's room. "Jamie?" Jamie turned from the window.
"Hey."
"Hey. Taylor's going to talk to Monica. It's a good idea that you come along."
"All right." Jamie got up and went over to him. "I'll calm her down before she and Taylor talk. It's better that I do."
"If you want." Isaac grabbed her arm as she walked past. "Are *you* all right?"
Jamie smiled at him. "When Moni's all right, I'll be fine."
"So, let me get this straight, Jamie. You're the type of person who is totally selfless and the one to lend a hand?"
Jamie grinned and leaned against the doorframe. "That's right. And you, Isaac, are passionate about your music. Music lives in your soul, and you have to express it. Am I right?"
"Dang, Jamie, you are good."
Jamie squeezed his hand. She started to walk to find Taylor but threw another smile over her shoulder at him. "And you can call me Jules." She disappeared. Isaac smiled and sighed.
"Moni," Jamie said quietly. Monica didn't answer. Jamie pulled her into a hug. "Moni, pull yourself together. You need to talk about this. He wants to."
"I don't care what he wants or what he does. I don't want to talk to him!"
"You're just scared you still have feelings for him and are trying to cover them up with anger." There was a silence. "Calm down. He just wants to talk."
"All right," Monica relented. Jamie went to Taylor.
"She's all yours."
"Hi," Taylor said quietly. Monica said nothing. "Monica, I'm really sorry I didn't believe you. I wasn't being a good friend and listening. Will you forgive me?"
"I don't hold grudges," Monica said coolly. "I accept your apology."
Taylor knew she was still angry with him. He looked helplessly back at Jamie.
"Time. Just give her time," Jamie mouthed. Isaac nodded in agreement.
