Zac followed Taylor into their messy room, where Isaac was collapsed on his bed. Taylor kicked some music aside and stood beside him.
"Ike, what's going on?"
"I just can't stop thinking about Karen's threat. I'm afraid she will really do something."
Taylor motioned for Zac to say something. He stepped out into the hall and furiously dialed Karen's all-too-familiar number.
Her answering machine picked up. "You've reached Karen's machine. Leave a message after the beep. You know the deal. Oh, and Isaac, you can kiss my..."
There was a convenient beep right in the nick of time. "Karen, it's Taylor Hanson. Do you really think you can ruin Ike's life??? He's not letting this get to him. In fact..." A light went off in his head. Brilliant, Taylor! he thought. "Ike met someone tonight, and they're going out tomorrow. My parents don't mind, because they know she'll treat Isaac better than you ever did!"
As he hung up, he realized he had to get that girl to be seen with his brother tomorrow night in case Karen really didn't believe him. And she probably wouldn't, knowing what his parents had said.
Taylor sprinted out the door and down the street, where he spotted the two performers getting into a car. He ran to catch up.
"Jamie, I need to talk to you!" Taylor whispered urgently. Jamie looked at him and quickly turned to Monica.
"Moni, wait in the car," she instructed. Monica glanced at Taylor. He saw the anger on her face. Jamie turned back to Taylor, who proceeded to explain, putting in only certain details and forgetting purposely about his parents' instructions.
Jamie agreed to being in the same place as Isaac the following night for their "date". Taylor thanked her and sprinted away.
"What was that all about?" Monica asked, letting her boredom show in her voice.
"Chill out, Monica. I'm doing Taylor a favor tomorrow."
Monica didn't need to see Jamie's smile as Jamie started the car. She knew Jamie had agreed to something involving the older brother that had flown past her. Jamie only smiled like that when a guy was involved.
Monica forced her eyes on the road and Taylor Hanson from her thoughts.
