"I call first on the computer!" I called as my thirteen-year-old sister and I raced into the house after our two-week family vacation. "I can't wait to see where Hanson will be performing! Do you think they will come here?"
My sister Anne looked at me skeptically. "Dream on, Monica! Why would they come here? They didn't last time, remember?"
By this time I was already on the computer. "I know, that's why it's more likely that they will come here this tour," I said as I got online. I typed in the familiar address, http://www.hansonline.com , and clicked on "Tour". "Okay, let's see...Miami, Atlanta, OH MY GOSH!"
"What? Are they coming here?" Anne was nearly hyperventilating with excitement.
"Not exactly here to Austin, but...They are coming to San Antonio and you will never guess when!"
"Tell me, tell me!"
"August eleventh!"
"You are kidding! There is no way they are coming here, and especially not the day before your sixteenth birthday! I do not believe you!"
"See for yourself. August 11, 2000 - San Antonio, TX - Alamodome"
"OH MY GOSH!!!"
We both ran into our parents' room to give them the news. "Mom, Dad, you will not believe this, but Hanson is coming to San Antonio the day before my birthday! Can we pleeeease go?" I begged.
"Well, I don't know," said Mom doubtfully. "When does school start?"
"I think it starts on the ninth, but I'm not sure. Anne, when do we start?"
Anne looked on the calendar in the kitchen and called, "On the ninth."
"So you'll already be in school. I really don't know if that would be a good idea," Mom said.
I couldn't let this chance slip away that easily. Then I remembered something. "Mom, the ninth is a Wednesday, so that means that the concert is on a Friday. Isn't that okay?"
Then Dad spoke up. "How are you going to get there? If the concert starts at eight like they usually do, then we'd need to leave no later than five thirty to make sure that we'd get a parking space. You know I don't get off work until four thirty, and Mom gets off at five. I don't think it would work."
"You mean we can't go?" Anne said disappointedly.
"I'm afraid not. If it was on a Saturday or actually in Austin, then there would be a chance, but as it is, I just don't think it is possible. I'm sorry."
"Some birthday this will be," I muttered under my breath as I went to my room to listen to Live From Albertane.
