Chapter 14

Avery looked out the window that separated the gym and the lobby, and then said, "Monica, look! There they are now!"

"Who?" I asked, although I had a pretty good idea.

"My brothers. See, there's Ike, Tay, and Zac."

I turned to look out the window when one of the coaches walked by and said, "Gee, I see a whole lotta nothing going on." Avery and I quickly got back to work.

At the end of class, Avery asked if I'd like to meet her brothers.

"Okay," I said, "but I've actually already met them."

"How could you have --" she started, then, " Oh! Of course! Man, sometimes I forget they're famous. They're so...so...so down-to-earth, you know?"

I understood completely. "Oh, yeah. I met them actually only two months ago, at the concert in San Antonio, and they were exactly like that. I felt that I was just meeting normal people. It was wonderful."

"Okay, so let's go talk to them, see if they remember you."

"Yeah. I really hope they do. Did you know, Taylor said he hoped we'd meet again? But he probably says that to all the fans."

"I wouldn't know," Avery said laughing. "I've never been in on these little meet-and-greet sessions. So...let's go!"

We exited the gym into the lobby. Avery grabbed my hand and pulled me over to where Isaac, Taylor, and Zac were waiting for their sister. "Ike! Tay! Zac!" she called.

"Hey, Avie,"said Taylor. "How was it? And who's this with --" he stopped. "Monica?!? Is it really you?"

"Yeah, it's me," I said softly. "How have you...you guys been?"

"Pretty good, but Ike here is still thinking of Michelle."

I turned to Isaac. "Ike, she's still thinking of you, too." Turning back to the group, I asked, "So, anyway, what are you guys doing here?"

Zac spoke up for the first time. "We're here to record our new album. But...don't tell anyone, okay? It's supposed to be a big secret."

"Sure, I won't tell. Except...can I tell Michelle?"

"Yes, tell her!" Isaac exclaimed.

"Okay. I know she'll be glad to hear that Ike's back. Also, I don't think I can keep this a secret from my sister."

"Isn't she the one you said would say hi if she knew you were at the concert?" Zac asked nonchalantly.

"Yes, that's her. Also, her friend Kate is here, and I know she likes Hanson too. Should I tell them and swear them to secrecy?"

Taylor and Isaac were reluctant, but Zac said, "Yeah, tell them! I wanna meet them!"

I suppressed a laugh. "Is that okay with you two?"

"Well, okay," Taylor agreed. "As long as you make them promise not to tell anyone else."

"Okay," I said. Then I slyly asked Zac, "Should I get Anne to come on Tuesday? Then you could meet her and Kate."

"Yes!!" he said, a little too excitedly.

"Okay," I said, not quite holding in my laughter this time. Just then, I remembered the reason they were here. "By the way, guys, why are you recording your album here? What's so special about Austin?"

Taylor laughed. "We just thought it would be nice to have a break from LA, or even Tulsa."

We talked for a few more minutes when I looked at the clock and realized I should be getting home. "Guys, I really need to go. Mom and Dad are probably wondering what happened to me."

I gave Isaac Michelle's phone number, and after goodbyes, I left.
