The next month passed by incredibly slowly, or so it seemed to me. Anne was out of school, and Michelle and I were through with finals. Finally, it was New Year's Eve and the day of the party. Michelle had come over to my house. She would be spending the night after the party. She, Anne, and I were currently preparing for the event.
Michelle wore a long dark green dress with a slit up to mid-thigh on one side and spaghetti straps. Since it was December and cold, she also wore a matching jacket. Her hair was up in a gold clip, and her nails were painted gold.
Anne's dress was baby blue. It was a long-sleeved velvety dress that came down to her knees. She pulled her hair back in a headband, and painted her nails baby blue.
I wore a purple dress. The top part and the short sleeves were velvet, and the ankle-length skirt had tiny silver stars on it. I French-braided my hair, and my nails were the same as they were for the concert, purple with silver over it.
Soon after we were ready, I heard the doorbell ring. Michelle, Anne, and I went to answer it. Of course, it was Isaac, Taylor, and Zac.
"Hi Monica," said Taylor. "Wow, you look beautiful."
I blushed, but attempted to cover it by replying, "You don't look so bad, yourself!"
This time it was his turn to blush. "Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah," I said. "Mom," I called, "we're leaving now, okay? Bye!"
"Bye, everybody! Have fun!" We piled into Isaac's car and left, Isaac driving with Michelle in the other front seat, Taylor and me in the middle, and Zac and Anne in the back.
After about 45 minutes of traveling, we arrived at the location where the party was being held. After Isaac parked the car, the six of us walked to the building.
As we got closer to the building, I saw lots of reporters and press people. When they saw us, they immediately came over and started asking questions and taking pictures. Most of the questions were about Michelle, Anne, and me.
Isaac then spoke up. "Okay, I'm going to clear things up right now. Michelle," he took Michelle's hand, "is my girlfriend." There was a lot of gasping at that news.
Then Zac took Anne's hand and said, "This is my girlfriend, Anne." This news was greeted by more gasps.
Then a reporter turned to Taylor and asked, "And this lovely lady? Is she your girlfriend?"
"This is Monica, and no, she is not my girlfriend. She is, however, one of my best friends, and my very best friend in Austin. I don't have a girlfriend." He was holding my hand, only to make sure the reporters wouldn't separate us, but I realized the reporters would never believe his statement as long as we were holding hands.
