Chapter 3

"Hello?" I said, daydreaming that the voice on the other end would be Taylor, but since I knew that was impossible, hoping it was at least for me.

"Monica?"

"Michelle? Is that you?"

"Yep. Guess what," my best friend of ten years replied.

"I have no idea," I said. "Tell me."

"I got in! The Science Academy accepted me! I'm going to LBJ with you next year!"

I was shocked. "Oh my gosh, that's incredible! I can't wait to see you!"

"Me neither. But that isn't the only reason I called. How would you like to come over to spend the night the Friday night after school starts? Someone has a birthday to celebrate!"

I was really glad she invited me over. Maybe that would get my mind off the concert. "That would be great! Let me go ask my parents and I'll be right back." I went and asked them if that would be okay. They agreed, not quite as reluctantly as I had thought they would. The only problem was transportation, and Michelle said I could just go home with her. I thanked her again for her invitation and told her about the concert issue.

"Wow, that's bad," she said when I was through telling her. "But I bet we'll have more fun than they will. I know you probably think I'm crazy for saying that anything could be more fun than a Hanson concert, but --"

"No, I don't think you're crazy. I know there are things to do that are more fun than a Hanson concert...I just can't think of any."

"Well, you'll see. Bye!"

"Bye, Michelle. See ya in four days!"

"See ya!"

I hung up the phone, happy.
