"You're what?!?!" shouted Jennifer Wilson, Kimberly's best friend.
"I'm moving, Jen," replied Kimberly. They were sitting on Jennifer's bed in her bedroom. Kimberly was remarkably calm, in comparison to her reaction when she first heard the news. Jennifer, on the other hand, was not.
"You can't move!! You just can't!!" She was in tears now. "Kim, what will I do without you? Remember in fifth grade, when we made a promise that we'd finish school together, and graduate together? What happened to that promise, Kim?"
Kimberly was also in tears by that point. "Jen, this wasn't my decision, you know that. I wish I could stay here, you know I do! If there was anything on earth I could do to be able to stay, I would do it in a second! But there's not, and we both know it!"
"I'm gonna miss you so much, Kim!!"
"I'm gonna miss you, too, Jen!" She hugged her friend tightly.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Jen reluctantly went to open it.
It was Jen's mother. "Kimberly," she said, "your mother's on the phone. She says you need to go home now."
Kimberly and Jennifer once again hugged, both girls beginning to cry again. "Come over tomorrow," begged Kim. "We leave a week from tomorrow, and we need to spend as much time together as we can."
"Of course I will," said Jen. "I'll see you tomorrow! Bye!"
"Bye!" said Kim, waving as she left.
A week later, Kimberly and her mother were loading their belongings into their car when Jennifer arrived. She and Kimberly immediately began to cry, hugging each other as though they would never let go.
Finally, it was time to leave.
"Well...bye, Jen," Kim said with tears running down her face. "I'm gonna miss you so much!"
"I'm gonna miss you more!" said Jen, tears likewise streaming down her face. "Bye! Write me every day, and call me every week!"
"I will, and you have to do the same!"
"I will," promised Jen.
Kimberly's mother came over then. "Kimberly, it's time to go."
This brought on a fresh round of tears from the girls. They continued to call good-bye's as Kimberly got in the car after one final hug from Jennifer. As the car pulled out of the driveway and down the road, Kimberly and Jennifer cried and waved until they could no longer see each other.
