Tournament Results: May 31, 1998 Constructed Deck Tournament:  Houston, Texas by Alan Steinberg

Well, the 1st Official Babylon 5 tournament in the Houston Area was a sucess even though only 10 players showed up. The Humans were definately the strongest as a race, but Kyle playing Narn had the most points going into the final, and could just not pull it off in the final round when Austin playing Centauri cost him the win.

Many intersting things happened in the tourney. In the 1st round Kyle won the 1st game to end a 3 player game of Kyle, Steve and Tom. Steve did not know one of the errata on one of his cards which was one of the main themes of his deck, so this really messed him up, but this would not effect the fact that they would end up seeing each other again.

The second round was the most interesting by far. One of the 3 player games, consisting of John, Tom and David ended in less then 30 minutes when Tom had a fast victory. The other 3 player game of Johnny, Steve, and Austin finished just before time was called with every one ending over 20 power, and the scores were 28, 25, and 24. The 4 player game in this round, consistiong of Johnna, Jeff, Kyle and Wes looked like great fun. After Johnna won a diplomacy conflict, Jeff played an "Inevitable Destiny", but after revealing his entire deck he did not have a legal aftermath!!!

The 3rd round was quite slow, but all the games finished before the time limit, and the 4 player game of Austin, David, Kyle and Tom finished 1st when Kyle won. In the 3 player game of Wes, Steve, and John, the Minbari and the Narn, just ganged up on the poor defenseless Humans, to just kill Wes' score.

The final round was a good game between Kyle, Steve, Tom, and Austin who just barely got the playing spot by 3 pts over Jeff. This was amazing since Austin learned how to play less then a week ago. (Guess I am a good teacher :-) The game went by as many watched in the Texas heat. In the last round, Austin stoped Kyle from winnning and Tom took the victory.

Final standings: (before finals) * final 4, # winner

Minbari -
Steve Bonario - 67 pts *
Johnna Golden - 50 pts
David Kiehnhoff - 48 pts

Centauri -
Austin Marshal - 52 pts *
Jeff Toschlog - 49 pts

Human -
Tom Perdoni - 73 pts *#
Johnny Chu - 71 pts
Wes Brown - 61 pts

Narn -
Kyle Bennick - 79 pts *
John H. Golden - 59 pts

Evey one who participated received at least one booster pack. Tom took home the "Past Victories" card, and Austin, Kyle, and Steve all won a "Destined to Be". Both of these special cards are only given to winners of tournaments. Tom will also recieve an autograph mailed to him from Precedence. I think every one had a prettty good time, and at the next tournament I suspect more people will show up, and possibly expect more, and better, prizes.
