LETHA LORENE BELKNAP AKERS, 97, passed
away on May 20, 2005, with interment at Mission
Burial Park South Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
The daughter of John and Ruda Belknap, she was born
in Carbon, TX, on Sept. 4, 1907, and grew up in
Ranger, TX. She attended Ranger High School in the
Class of 1927. She came to San Antonio in 1936 &
worked for J.C. Penny's, retiring in 1972. She
married in 1941 and a year later gave birth to her
son Joseph William "Billy", who preceded her in
death in 1992. She also was preceded in death by
her parents and oldest brother, Melvin Belknap
(RHS-1930) & his wife Lora of North Little Rock,
AR, and brothers-in-law A.G. Parrack and O.J. Hans.
She loved making and teaching ceramics, and for
the last few years had been a favorite resident
of Blanco Villa Nursing Home, always ready with
a song or funny quip.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Akers was survived
by brother, J.T. Belknap (RHS-1931) and wife Inez
(RHS-1936) of Killeen, TX; sisters, Veda Parrack
(RHS-1934) of Salem, MO; Jo Hans of San Antonio;
Norma Jetton & husband Kenneth of Clovis, NM; and
Delpha Potter & husband Bill of Gun Barrel City,
TX. Also surviving her are her 'other children' -
numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and
grand-nephews who loved her dearly.
