DONALD F. CHAMPION was born on June 28, 1911
to Anna Belle Winks & John Franklin "Frank" Champion.
His brother, John Franklin "Frank" Champion, Jr.
(RHS-1939) who was born in Ranger, TX & killed-in-action
over Germany in 1943 during WWII and buried in Belgium,
and two sisters, Hortense Champion Thompson & Vivian
Champion Hughes. Vivian was also born in Ranger and
married Fred Hughes of Ranger. Hortense married Clarence
W. Thompson and they lived in Ranger until 1928.
Donald graduated with the Ranger High School Class of
1929 and lived in Ranger until he moved to Tyler in
1934 where he married Alberta Craddock of Houston in
Dec. of 1934. He is the author of his personal living
history non-fiction novel titled Wood Derricks, Iron
Men and Gold Women, published in 1987. He was living
in New Ulm, TX, at the time of his death on Nov. 10,
1997. Alberta died at New Ulm in April of 1999.
