VELMA BROWN ANDREW, 58, was born Aug. 24,
1909 in Gorman, TX, to Charity Obie Butts & Walter
Brown, & died July 7, 1968. She was in the Ranger
High School Class of 1929 at Ranger, TX & married
Hiram Lendley Andrew from Wichita Falls in 1951. He
died in 1965. She had two brothers, Claude Alvin
Brown, and Vada Leroy Brown and a sister, Opadell
Brown (RHS-1932) who married Jay B. Baker. Their
son is, Velma's nephew, Jay Dell Baker (RHS-1962)
of Fort Worth, TX, and his sister, Velma's niece,
Sherry Ann Baker Farnsworth (RHS-1957), lives in
Schaumburg, IL.
Most of the time, Velma and Hiram lived in Karnes
City, TX, where she was employed as a bookkeeper
at a drug store and where she was living when she
died. When they lived in Ranger, part of the time
in the Gholson Hotel, she was manager of the old
Scotts 5&10 Store on Main St. next to Swaney's and
"Andy" (Hiram) worked for Lone Star Gas Company.
Opadell and Velma, their parents, their husbands,
and other relatives are buried in the Evergreen
Cemetery at Ranger.
