JOHN BRAY, 68, a former football star & longtime
football official and coach, died at Fort Worth,
TX in Dec. of 1983, with interment at Greenwood
Memorial Park.
Bray, a native of Graham who grew up in Ranger,
TX, played football for Ranger High School, Ranger
Junior College, Texas Tech University and Texas
Wesleyan College, where he was named to the all-
Texas Conference team. He played for the Paterson,
N.J., Panthers, becoming part of the Panters'
1947 league championship team. Bray later coached
football at high schools in Carrollton, DeKalb,
Wellington and Brewer. He officiated at Southwest
Conference football games and was a member of the
Southwest Football Officials Association. He also
taught driver's education for the Fort Worth School
district. He retired in 1980. During World War II,
Bray was a captain in the U.S Army Air Corps and
served as provost marshal at Clark Air Field in
the Philippines. He married Neil Bray and had a
son and a daughter.
