COL CHARLES HICK PORTER, SR., 95, passed away on
Feb. 12, 2011 in Temple, TX, with burial in Eastlawn
Memorial Park at Early, TX.
He was born on Oct. 3, 1915 in Brownwood, TX to
Charles W. & Myra Hicks Porter. Charles attended
Ranger High School in the Class of 1934 at Ranger,
TX. In Aug. of 1939, he married Louise Burk in
Brady, TX. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps
(1941-1945)and served three years overseas with
the 13th Jungle Air Force in the 390th Bomb Squadron
during WWII. He attained the rank of colonel. He
worked as an aircraft inspector for General Dynamics;
for the Lone Star Gas Corporation; and was a rancher.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in
Blanket. Charles served as a past president of the
Brownwood Lions Club, served on the Blanket School
Board, was a Cub Scout leader and was a member of the
Blanket Masonic Lodge, VFW and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife. His siblings
were Jack Porter & Gladys Porter Beckham (RHS-1935).
Survivors include a son, Charles Porter of Troy;
three daughters, Martha Mauldin of Round Rock,
Colleen Davis of Fayetteville, NC, and Laura
Leatherwood of Dublin; 18 grandchildren; and
13 great-grandchildren.
