A. RANKIN BRITT, 85, of Ranger, TX died on March 5,
2001 at his hom, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery
in Ranger.
He was born on April 11, 1915 in Erath County to
Clayton Adolphus and Bertie Browning Britt.
Rankin was a graduate of Ranger High School at
Ranger, TX & a graduate of Texas A&M University.
He taught and coached football in Waco & Ranger
at Young School. For a time he was on the Ranger
Police Force. He served on the Ranger City Council
as a street commissioner. He was a member of Ranger
Lions Club and Retired Teachers Association. He
served in the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1970
during WW II, Korean War, and Vietnam War. He
married Helen Louise Sharpe (RHS-1933) in 1936.
She preceded him in death in 1995.
At RHS, Rankin played football and was All-District
in 1932 and received many votes for All-State in 1933.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia
Ledbetter, in July of 2000.
At the time of his death, he is survived by his son
and daughter-in-law, Arie C. and Gayle Britt of Flower
Mound, TX; a sister, Oleta Britt Henry (RHS-1932);
one grandson, Clay Britt of Bryan; one granddaughter
and grandson-in-law, Heather & Richard Hughes of Mt.
Pleasant, TX; and several nieces & nephews.
