IMOGENE "GENIE" POWELL LEE, 92, formerly of Ranger, TX
& Arlington, TX, passed away Oct. 27, 2012 in Woodbridge,
VA.
Genie was born in Tintop, TX, on Nov. 15, 1919 and soon
moved with her parents Lantz G. & Effie Brashears Powell
and brother Lantz G. "Buster" to Ranger, TX where they
took up residence on her grandfather Houston Brashears'
ranch near Lake Leon. Genie attended Ranger High School
in the Class of 1936 and Ranger Junior College. She went
on to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad, Speaker of
the House Sam Rayburn, Arlington Bank & Trust, and Texas
Commerce Bank. After retirement from Texas Commerce Bank
in 1984, Genie relocated to Occoquan and Woodbridge, VA,
to be near family and donated her time to reading to under
privileged children, and running senior bus trips to
casinos in the area.
Genie is a descendant of the first Powell in America, who
arrived in Virginia in early 1607 with John Smith. Her early
ancestors served as Captain of the Guard at Jamestown and
later as Lieutenant Governor.
Genie was preceded in death by her husband Col. William
Wilson Lee, USAF (Ret), her parents and brother.
At the time of her death, she was survived by her sons, CW4
William Wilson Lee Jr., US Army Special Forces, (Ret), Leo
Lantz "Rocky" Lee, and two granddaughters, Jessica Rose Lee
and Stephanie Diane Lee.
Genie donated her body to the George Washington University
Medical Center.
