MARY FRANCES STRONG MADDOX, 92, of
Houston, TX, passed away Sept. 2, 2013, with
burial in Memorial Oaks Cemetery at Houston.
Mary was born on Oct. 8, 1920 in Dublin, TX to G.
Oscar & Susan Strong. She attended Ranger High
School in the Class of 1937 at Ranger, TX. Mary
married the love of her life, Bruce Maddox in July
of 1939 and together they raised two sons, Gary &
Tony. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, sister, and aunt to many nieces
and nephews. After raising her sons Mary worked
part-time and retired after 20 years with the J.C.
Penney Company. Mary was active for many years with
the Oak Forest-Garden Oaks Garden Club and she was
always ready to deliver homemade meals with her
sweet smile to her friends and neighbors in need.
She was also a faithful member of the choir at St.
Matthews United Methodist Church until she and
Bruce moved to Clarewood House in 2002.
Mary is survived by her son, Gary Maddox and wife
Patricia, son, Tony Maddox and wife Norma, grand-
children, Stephen Maddox and wife Amy, John Maddox
and wife Janie, Nicole Monroe and husband Loren,
John Stofer and wife Candace, Sara Maddox, great-
grandchildren, Jackson Maddox, Mary Wesley Maddox,
Bennett Maddox, Alex Maddox, Mason Maddox, Miles
Monroe, Linden Monroe, Maddox Parker, Makenzye
Parker, & numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister
was Vonceil Strong Hopper (RHS-1934).
Mary always had a smile on her face and a kind
word for every person that crossed her path. Her
sweet & loving nature will be greatly missed by all.
