D.C. ARTERBURN, 94, of Amarillo, passed away on
April 6, 2017, with burial at the Evergreen Cemetery
in Ranger, TX.
D.C. was born July 30, 1922 in Stuart, OK to Ernest
Forrest & Margaret Leoma Arterburn. He attended Ranger
High School at Ranger, TX in the Class of 1940 & grad-
uated from Ranger Jr. College. He then proudly served
in the U. S. Coast Guard during WWII. He spent all
his time on a destroyer escort traveling from Iceland
to Cuba. He married Dorothy Lewis (RHS-1946) in Lubbock
in June of 1957. They moved to Amarillo in 1963 and he
went to work for Detroit Diesel as a parts man & retired
from Jack B. Kelley in 1987. He was a member of Pleasant
Valley United Church since 1963, serving in various
positions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers,
W.J. Arterburn (RHS-1942), L.P. Arterburn (RHS-1945), &
Ernest Arterburn (RHS-1940).
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Amarillo; one
daughter, Kim Arterburn of Houston; one son, James
Crossley and wife, Jennifer of Shertz; one brother, E.F.
Arterburn Jr. (RHS-1945) of Lubbock; one granddaughter,
Amy Phillips and husband, Kale; and four great-grand-
children, Judson, Jedd, Jensen and Jenks Phillips, all
of Amarillo.
