ALVIN MILTON "DWAINE" DENNIS, 83, was born in Ranger,
TX on July 16, 1924 & passed away at his home on June 9,
2008, following a lengthy illness.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Allen & Ethel
Long Dennis and his brother Norman Dennis (RHS-1932). He
graduated from Ranger High School (1941) and attended
Ranger Junior College. He started his newspaper profession
at the Ranger Times working for his father. He married
the love of his life, Virginia White Dennis, on Feb. 27,
1943. In May of 1963 they moved to Jefferson, Texas, and
purchased the Jefferson Jimplecute. He served as publisher
for 24 years until they sold the newspaper in 1987. He was
very involved in the community through the years. He served
as board member for JISD, Marion County Chamber of Commerce,
Lions Club, Hospital District, City of Jefferson Water
District, Jefferson Historical Museum, Carnegie Library,
Marion County Industrial Foundation, and Marion County
Extension Service. He played Sheriff John Vines in the
"Diamond Bessie Murder Trail" sponsored by the Jessie Allen
Wise Garden Club, for 20 years. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Jefferson and served on numerous committees.
He served in the Air Force in World War II. He was a Scottish
Rite of Freemasonry, 32nd degree, member Masonic Lodge # 738,
Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 275, Moslah Shrine Temple
and Marion County Shrine Club. Also a member of Proctor
Meisenheimer American Legion Post No. 304. After retiring
from the newspaper he continued to serve as a Director of the
First National Bank of Jefferson until it sold in 1999. His
favorite past times were wood working, cooking and gardening.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Virginia White
Dennis; a daughter Pamela McGregor and husband Harl McGregor;
a son Joe Wayne Dennis & wife Angie Kent Dennis; grandchildren,
Kimberly McGregor Brockwell and husband Larry Brockwell, Chris
McGregor and wife Jenny Sarison McGregor, James McGregor and
wife Lorraine Hulen McGregor, Timothy McGregor, John Wesley
Dennis; great grandchildren, Seth McGregor, Colin McGregor,
Korin McGregor, Kylee McGregor, and Ariel Brockwell and his
beloved pet dog Pumpkin.
WIFE: VIRGINIA LOUISE WHITE DENNIS, 85, of Jefferson, died
on May 2, 2011 in Longview, TX.
Mrs. Dennis was born Oct. 18, 1925 in Ranger, TX to Wayne
Parks & Johnnie Louise Williams White. She married the love
of her life, Dwaine Dennis, in Feb. of 1943. They moved to
Jefferson in 1963 and purchased the Jefferson Jimplecute where
she was part owner and bookkeeper for 24 years. She and Dwaine
loved to travel & had many wonderful vacations after retirement.
Mrs. Dennis was a member of the First Baptist Church, the
Eastern Star and the Jessie Allen Wise garden club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dwaine Dennis and
sister Bettie Butler of Dallas.
Survivors include Pamela McGregor, and husband Harl, Joe
Wayne Dennis and wife Angie all of Jefferson; five grand-
children and six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces
and nephews.
