THOMAS ELWOOD, 82, a retired Air Force major,
died on June 13, 2006, in Weatherford, TX, with
burial in East Greenwood Cemetery.
Thomas was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Ranger, TX.
He was a resident of Parker County for several
years. He attended Ranger High School in the
Class of 1941. Mr. Elwood graduated from North
Texas Agriculture College in Arlington and then
served three years in the U.S. Air Force during
World War II.
He was a graduate of Le Tourneau Technical
Institute in Longview in 1949. Thomas was a
machinist at Chance Vought and TEMCO in Grand
Prairie until his recall to active duty in
October 1950, serving in Japan, the Philippines
and Korea and retired in 1967.
Thomas was employed by the Army and Air Force
Exchange Service from 1968 to 1970 at the Saigon
Depot during the Vietnam War.
He was an avid aviation enthusiast and soloed a
Piper Cub at age 17, loved designing, building
and flying radio-controlled model airplanes and
designing, building and racing radio-controlled
model cars.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Elwood
(RHS-1943).
Survivors: Wife, Ella V. Sosebee Elwood of Weatherford;
son, John Elwood of Riverside, CA; daughter, Peggy
Elwood Scherer of Richland, WA; step-children, Connie
Tucker and husband, Glynn, Ronnie Montgomery and
wife, Pat, and Nancy Yeager and husband, Mickey;
six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
