MILDRED BALCH, 84, passed away on Jan. 5, 2010 in
a local medical center in Abilene, TX, with burial in
Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The daughter of the late Robert & Lela Mae (Brewster)
Balch, Mildred was born Feb. 2, 1925 in Ranger, TX,
where she graduated from Ranger High School. She later
graduated from Texas Woman's University and received her
Master's Degree from Hardin-Simmons University. She was
formerly employed by Abilene Independent School District
for 28 years where she taught at Bonham Elementary. She
also taught in Ranger (Hodges Oak) for 10 years and in
Crane, TX for one year, totaling 39 years as a teacher,
retiring in 1984. Mildred was a member of Texas State
Teachers Association, National Education Association,
American Business Women's Association, and a member of
Southwest Dr. United Methodist Church, formerly Fairmont
United Methodist Church, where she was the organist for
20 years.
Besides her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by a
brother, Willard B. Balch (RHS-1938), and her aunt, Mrs.
Bessie Adams.
Survivors include her brother, Robert "Bob" Balch, Jr.
(RHS-1947) and wife, Ann of Tucumcari, NM; five nephews,
Burton Balch & wife, Dianne and their two sons of Houston;
Blane Balch and wife, Harley Cozewith of Dallas; Byron
Balch and wife, Emily and their two sons of Chicago, IL;
Scott Balch and wife, Lynda and their two sons and a
daughter-in-law of Dallas; Jeff Balch and wife, Toni &
their daughter and son of Dallas; a niece, Cindy Boyd
and husband, Dave and their two daughters, Ellie and
Macy Boyd of Dallas.
