CLARIECE THOMPSON MERCER, 87, died peacefully on
Sept. 9, 2012.
Clariece was born Nov. 15, 1925, to Clarence and
Hortense Thompson in Ranger, TX. She graduated
from Ranger High School Class of 1942 & attended
Kilgore Junior College where she was a member of
the Kilgore Band. Clariece married Jack Mercer in
1946 and had two sons, Robert Perry Mercer and
Robin B. Mercer. She lived in Kansas City, MO.,
prior to returning to Fort Worth in 1960. She was
a Texas master gardener and was an active volunteer
at the Fort Worth Botanical Garden. She was also
one of the two organizing members of the Chaparral
4-H Club in Weatherford.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well
and her brother, Tommy C. Thompson (RHS-1937).
At the time of her death, survivors: Perry and wife,
Ling Mercer, and Robin and wife, Sandy Mercer; grand-
daughter, Sabrina Mercer; six step-grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and
sisters, Jane Stubblefield (RHS-1944) of San Angelo,
and Evelyn and husband, Richard Nichols, of Kingsland.
