LAUNETTE SHOOK VEAL, 80, passed away April 5,
2010 in Humble, TX, with burial in Alameda Cemetery
near Ranger, TX.
Launette was born in Gorman, TX, June 26, 1929 to
Faughn and Oma (Wilson) Shook. She attended Ranger
High School her Junior year and graduated from Azle
High School. She later moved to Ft. Worth and then
to Ranger where she lived for more than 30 years.
She married Howard "Jack" Veal in June of 1956.
Launette was a member of the Eastside Baptist
Church. A lifelong home maker, she was a loving
and caring lady who loved to spend time with her
family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her
husband, Jack Veal, in 2005. She is survived by
her sons, Donny Veal and wife Linda of Austin, TX
and Jimmy Veal (RHS-1979) and wife ILO of Splendora,
TX, six grandchildren, & three great-grandchildren,
sister Vonnie Shook Mainka (RHS-1957) of Andrews,
TX, & brother Burl Shook (RHS-1959) of Gorman, TX.
HUSBAND: HOWARD W. "JACK" VEAL, 72, of Ranger, TX
died on March 22, 2005 in Abilene, TX after a lengthy
illness, with burial in the Alameda Cemetery near
Ranger.
Jack was born on June 7, 1932 in Parker County, TX,
to Edith Gertrude Burns and Ralph Wallace Veal. He was
a graduate of Mineral Wells High School and attended Lee
College and San Jacinto College, receiving a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He entered
the United States Air Force in 1952 where he learned all
about flight simulators. He was discharged in 1956. He
married Launette Shook (RHS-1947) in June of 1956 in
N. Richland Hills, TX. They lived in several different
locations, returning to Ranger for a brief time while
his children attended school. They moved to Houston
where Jack went for work for Continental Airlines as a
flight simulator engineer for 12 years until he retired
in 1998. He moved back to Ranger and had his own electric
service company, Veal's Electric and was also elected
Police Commissioner for one term. Jack was a 32nd
Degree Mason & Shriner. He was a member of the Masonic
Lodge AF and AM #738 of Ranger. He was also a member
of the Calvary Baptist Church of Mineral Wells.
Survivors at the time of his death include his wife
Launette Veal of Ranger, sons Donny Veal & wife Linda
of San Marcus, Jimmy Veal (RHS-1979) and wife Ilo of
Splendora; sister Barbara Jean Ainsworth of Ranger; six
grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; numerous
nieces and nephews.
