W.T. EATON, 79, of Cisco, TX passed away on May 28,
2009 at his residence, with burial in the Eastland City
Cemetery.
W.T. was born on Sept. 8, 1929 in Cisco, TX, to Silas
Thomas & Eva May McGlothlin Eaton. They moved to Ranger
TX were he attended and graduated high school in 1948.
He attended Ranger Jr. College for two years as well.
W.T. married Lois Petree in Nov. of 1950 in Eastland
at the First Baptist Church, where they celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary in Nov. of 2000. They made
their home in Ranger and W.T. began working for Lone Star
Gas, starting in sales in 1952, and later as manager of
the Ranger office in 1961. He then transferred to Cisco
in 1973, where he spent the remainder of his career as
Service Technician Specialist in distribution. While in
Ranger he was president of the Ranger Little League for
13 years, served on the Ranger Chamber of Commerce Board
of Directors, he was a member of the Ranger Rotary Club,
Ranger Boy Scouts, and was Past President of the Ranger
Independent School District. He also supported the Ranger
F.F.A and 4-H programs for many years, and was a member
of the Ranger Fire Department. In Cisco, W.T. was well
known for his Christmas decorations, most of which he
made, and was one of the founders of the Cisco Christmas
in May program. He served many years on the Cisco Fire
Department, some of those as Chief.
You could say that W.T.'s hobbies were taking care of
his yard and going to games and activities that his
grandkids and great-grandkids played, as well as all of
the other kids in Cisco and Eastland. He loved helping
people.
W.T. was preceded in death by two sisters Gladys Eaton
McCrary & Elnora Eaton Overstreet.
W.T. is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Eaton
of Cisco; three children, Clinton Eaton (RHS-1971) and
wife Janet, Sandra Mangum (RHS-1972) and husband Robert,
and David Eaton and Jill Stephens all of Eastland; a
sister, Opal Eaton Elrod (RHS-1943) of Eastland; eleven
grand-children; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-
great-grandchild; & several nieces and nephews.
SISTER: MARTHA EATON OVERSTREET, 81, died on
Sept. 23, 1999, with interment at the Eastland City
Cemetery in Eastland, TX.
Mrs. Overstreet was born in 1918. She lived in Crosbyton,
Moran and Olden. She married Randall Overstreet in 1947
in Odessa. They returned to the Eastland, Ranger & Gordon
area, where they owned & operated several cafes, including
the White Elephant, the Village Coffee Shop, the Regal
Café in Ranger and the Gordon Junction Truck Stop. She
was a beautician for 62 years, operating the Unique Beauty
Shop and others. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist
Church. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors at the time of her death include a son, David
Overstreet of Eastland; a daughter, Barbara Sue Huffman
of Dallas; a brother, W.T. Eaton (RHS-1948) of Cisco; a
sister, Opal Elrod (RHS-1943) of Eastland; three grand-
daughters and a great-grandson.
