DOVIE MORENE ELLIS WHITLEY, 85, of Rocklin, CA died
on Nov. 1, 2017.
Dovie was born Dec. 11, 1931 at Ranger, TX to Fred
& Maude Ellis. She attended Ranger High School in
the Class of 1949 but graduated from Monahans High
School. Dovie was married to Denver Whitley at 17,
and the two moved from Texas to California. She was
active in Little League and all family activities.
She loved to travel, garden and read. She worked
at HP for 20 years, before moving to Rocklin where
she lived for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by husband; Denver,
sister; Pat Ellis Hughes (RHS-1949), & daughter
in-law; Debbie. She had three sons; Doak (Barb),
Dennis and Darrell (Kandi). Dovie was the beloved
grandmother of Wendy Lowery (Leif), Danielle Bringham
(Michael), Stephanie Whitley, Daisy Whitley, Denver
Whitley & great-grandmother to Taylor & Lili Lowery
and Karlee Lou Powers.
HUSBAND: DENVER WHITLEY died on Nov. 26, 2011.
He was born in Ranger TX to Lou & Dolph Whitley.
At 17 he joined the Marines during World War II.
He saw action at Guadal Canal, Tarawa, Saipan and
Tinian. After the war he moved to California and
worked with PG&E G.C. line for 42 years. He was
active in Little League Babe Ruth and Sr. Babe
Ruth in Mt. View. He has resided in Rocklin for
the past 32 years. He loved his family, friends,
neighbors, sports and the Democratic Party.
Proceeded in death by his stepbrother, Eddie Thomas
and his daughter-in-law, Debbie Whitley.
Survived by his wife of 63 years, Dovie Whitley;
brother, Everett and his sister, Ione Fludd. Denver
had three sons: Doak (Barb), Darrell (Kandi) and
Dennis. Denver was the beloved grandfather of Wendy
Lowery (Leif), Danielle Brigham (Michael), Stephanie
Whitley, Denver Whitley (Marine Veteran Sgt.) and
Daisy Whitley and great-grandchildren Taylor and
Lili Lowery and Karlee Lou Powers.
