STANLEY "JOHN" RICHARD MARLOW, 91 of
Midland, TX peacefully departed this life on Jan.
14, 2024 surrounded by his loved one, with interment
in Midland.
John was born on Feb. 15, 193, at his home in Olden,
TX to Stanley Tidwell "John" Marlow and Lena Inez
Ferguson Marlow. He attended grade school in Olden
before graduating from Ranger High School in the
Class of 1950 in Ranger, TX, Ranger College, and
SMU in Dallas. During his school years in Ranger,
he worked as a soda jerk at Oil City Pharmacy.
In Jan. of 1954, John married the love of his life,
Betty Ann Ligon, in Electra, TX. Their union was
blessed with two children, John Mark Marlow and
Jeffrey Craig Marlow. John and Betty were married
for over 63 wonderful, love-filled years prior to
her passing in 2017.
John dedicated 40 years of his professional life
to Magnolia Petroleum Company, which became Mobil
Oil & later ExxonMobil, working in various locations
such as Electra, Wichita Falls, Dallas, Midland, &
Houston. He retired in 1992 after serving as the
Manager of Computer Systems for the Midland Area.
He served as Vice President and/or Board Member of
the Exxon Mobil Retiree Club since retirement.
A true gentleman with a kind and gentle spirit, John
was an active & faithful member of St. Luke's United
Methodist Church and the Keystone Sunday School Class
in Midland. He actively participated in church commit-
tees and held various offices in the Keystone Class.
As a cherished "Grandad," he loved his grandchildren
and great grandchildren with his whole heart, and his
contagious love for life and those around him left an
enduring impact that will live on forever.
John was predeceased by his wife, Betty Ligon Marlow,
son Jeffrey Craig Marlow, parents Lena Inez Ferguson
Marlow Moffett & Stanley Tidwell "John" Marlow, step-
father D.O. Moffett, sister June Thompson, brother-in-
law Cournel Wesley Thompson, sister Jean Elder, brother-
in-law Billy Ray Elder, grandson Landon Zane Marlow,
and brothers-in-law Jimmie Clarence Ligon and Bobby
Vann Ligon and wife Polly.
He is survived by his son Mark (Deborah) of Christiansted,
VI, grandchildren Harmony Marlow Szymanski (Stan), Evan
Marlow (Alyssa), granddaughter in-law Casey Marlow,
Michael Marlow (Amanda), Russell Marlow (Diane), Heath
Marlow (Sara), Cami Marlow, great-grandchildren, Dean
Szymanski, Myles Szymanski, Ainsleigh Marlow, Penelope
Marlow, Asher Marlow, Illyeria Marlow, Kellie Marlow,
Brayton Marlow, Hayden Marlow, Kinley Marlow, Bailey
Marlow, Colson Marlow, Max Marlow, Elara Marlow, and
Elias Marlow, many nephews and nieces and countless
friends who will all continue to cherish his memory.
John leaves behind an incredible legacy. May he rest
in eternal peace.
WIFE: BETTY ANN LIGON MARLOW, 81, of Midland,
TX passed away on Feb. 26, 2017 in Midland.
Her parents were Yeuleata Mae Foster & Robert Earl Ligon.
Betty graduated from Electra High School, attended Draughon’s
Business College, and worked at Electra State Bank. The
most important part of her life was the love for her
family and extended family. She met and married John
Marlow in Electra, TX in 1954. They were happily married
for sixty-three years.She was a member of Midland’s St.
Luke’s United Methodist Church and loved being a part
of the Keystone Sunday School Class where she developed
many great and cherished friendships.
Betty was very competitive and enjoyed all table games.
She was an avid bridge player, both socially & Duplicate,
spending many hours at Allison Bridge Center. She loved
dancing and belonged to the Ballroom Dance Society, the
Country Western Dance Club and the Senior Citizens Bridge
and Dance Clubs. Through this, she met and loved many
friends we would not have known otherwise.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers,
Jimmie Ligon and Bobby Ligon (her twin) and his wife
Polly, in-laws June and Tommy Thompson, and Bill Elder.
She is survived by her husband, John, two sons, Mark,
and wife Deborah, Georgetown, TX, Jeff and wife Anglea,
Midland, TX, Grandchildren Harmony Szymanski (Stan),
Landon Marlow (Casey), Evan Marlow (Alyssa), Michael
Marlow (Amanda), Russell Marlow (Diane), Heath Marlow
(Sara), Cami Marlow (Jared) and Lexie McDorman, and
fourteen great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Jean
Elder and Nancy Ligon, and many very close longtime
friends.
