JANE ANN MCMILLAN MARTIN, 79, of Big Lake, TX,
left the pain of this earth behind on Nov. 6,
2012, with burial in Glen Rest Cemetery.
Jane was born in Woodward, OK, on March 25, 1933,
to W.O. & Della McMillan. She lived in Fort Worth,
Breckenridge and attended high school in Ranger,
TX, in the Class of 1951. Jane married her high
school sweetheart, Jimmy Martin (RHS-1947), in
June of 1951, in Barnhart, TX. They enjoyed 61
years of marriage.
She and Jimmy moved to Big Lake in 1952, to manage
and later own Martin's Department Store. She
actively helped run the business by keeping the
books and buying for the store at markets. Jane
and Jimmy also built and owned the Derrick Inn
Motel in Big Lake for many years, which she also
helped operate. Even though she worked faithfully
in the businesses, she never failed to put the
family first, attending all of her children's and
grandchildren's extracurricular activities.
Jane was an extraordinary daughter, wife, mother
and grandmother. Her love and devotion to her
family was her life's purpose. It has been said
that she was "a baby's best friend". Her daughters
and grandchildren are living testaments to her
loving kindness. Her life was spent serving others
and it was a privilege for her family to care for
her in her time of need. "Mai" doted on her grand-
children and great-grandchildren, Landon, Leah,
Brennan, Brady, Connor and Hudson, who lit up her
life and that glow will always warm their hearts.
Besides her undying love and devotion to her family
she was so giving of her own talents.
She freely gave her time to serve her community.
She served as president of the Reagan County Garden
Club and president of the PTA and room mother. She
took great pleasure in being a Sunday school teacher
at First Baptist Church, Big Lake, where she was a
longtime member. She loved and cherished the many
dear friendships she had. Her love and devotion to
her family and friends was evident to all who knew
her.
She was preceded in death by her precious loving son,
Jimmy Mack; her parents, Della and W.O. McMillan; her
brothers, Charles, Jim and Sam; her sisters, Billie
and Mickie; her great-granddaughter, Kynsley Ann
Bryant; and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
At the time of her death, she was survived by her
husband, Jimmy; and her daughters and sons-in-law
Jana and Michael Fisher and Jena and Gregg Fisher,
all of Big Lake. She is also survived by her grand-
children and their spouses, Landon and Stace Fisher,
Leah and Tanner Bryant, all of San Angelo, Brennan
Fisher of Lubbock and Brady Fisher of Big Lake; and
two great-grandchildren, Connor and Hudson Fisher
of San Angelo. She is also survived by two special
nieces, Kathryn Sellers of Colleyville and Beverly
Barnett of San Antonio; and numerous relatives and
friends.
