BARBARA "BABS" LONG BAKER, 76 of Sweeny,
formerly of Ranger, TX passed away on May 25, 2011
in Sweeny, TX, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery
at Ranger.
Barbara was born on May 19, 1935 in Ranger to the late
Raymond and Barbara Needham Long. She graduated from
Ranger High School in the Class of 1953 and married
Bill Baker in May of 1953 in Ranger. Barbara was a
homemaker and a teacher. At the age of 53, she grad-
uated from Tarleton State University in Stephenville
after obtaining her Teaching Certificate, and taught
at Ranger Elementary.
Survivors at the time of her death include: 3 sons,
Reg Baker and wife Paulette of Deer Park, Russ Baker
& wife Bridget of Lake Jackson, Rob Baker of Brazoria;
5 grandchildren, Jessica Jones, Jed Baker, Sharina
Mears, Seth Baker, and Slade Baker; & 3 great-grand-
children.
HUSBAND: BILLY ALLEN BAKER, 91, passed from
this life on March 15, 2024 in Webster, TX, with burial
in Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger, TX.
He was born on May 3, 1932 in Santa Anna, TX to Walter
Allen Baker & Bertha Jane (Leonard) Baker. Billy was a
loving husband, dad, grandfather and friend. He worked
as a Chief Technician for El Paso Natural Gas. He married
Barbara Ray (Long) Baker (RHS-1953) in Ranger, TX in 1953
and shared 58 beautiful years with her till her passing
in May of 2011. Billy was well known by many in Ranger
for his many years spent coaching and teaching, alongside
his dear friend of many years, Ron Butler. They taught
the girls fast pitch baseball team at Ranger Jr. College.
He was a very simple man who enjoyed staying home and
watching sports and also loved fishing. He will be
missed by many.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son: Russ Baker
and wife Bridget of Lake Jackson, TX; grandchildren: Jed,
Seth, Slade and Jessica; 5 great-grandchildren; numerous
nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Barbara Baker; two
sons: Reginal and Robin Baker; brothers: N.C. Baker,
Curtis Baker, Melvin Baker and George Baker and sisters:
Johnnie Smith, Opal Beard, Beatrice Maroney and Dorothy
Erving.
