JIMMY LEE CANTRELL, 77, of Sugar Land, TX, went
to be with the Lord on Sept. 21, 2012. He lived in, and
around, the Houston area for more than fifty years.
Jimmy was an active member of Bellaire Baptist Church,
Sharpstown Baptist Church and most recently a deacon
and usher at Sugar Land Baptist Church.
Jimmy, or Jim as his friends called him, was born on
December 7, 1934 in Pampa, TX. His parents, Mr. & Mrs.
Oliver Cantrell, moved to Ranger, TX, where Jimmy
graduated from Ranger High School in 1953. While at
Ranger High School he met his sweetheart of 57 years,
Martha Lee Harris (RHS-1954). They were active members
of the Ranger Exes.
They have a son, Brian Cantrell and wife Kelley and a
daughter, Sheryl Cantrell Adamcik and husband Steve.
They are blessed with six grandchildren, Clifton Adamcik,
Stacie Adamcik, Travis Cantrell and wife Bryanna, Kevin
Cantrell, Rachel Cantrell and Sarah Cantrell. Jimmy's
brother was Jerry Cantrell (RHS-1957) and his sister is
Diana Cantrell Henderson (RHS-1961).
Jimmy worked for the Texas Pipeline Company, a subsidiary
of Texaco, starting in June 1955. In 1993 he retired from
Texaco after a thirty-nine year career with the company.
Jim enjoyed traveling the world. He was able to go to The
Holy Land and Europe. He enjoyed golf with his buddies
and his family. Some great memories were made on the golf
course. Jimmy helped fill food request at a local food
pantry. In spite of hardships from his illness Jimmy lived
well, enjoyed life and above all loved his family.
FATHER: O.L. "LEE" CANTRELL, 87, of Lewisville, TX &
formerly of Ranger, TX passed away on Aug. 31, 2002, with
burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger.
Mr. Cantrell was born on May 18, 1915 in Ferris, TX, to Ruth
Wright & John Cantrell. He married Sarah Jane Browder in
Oct. of 1933 and she preceded him in death in 1981. He then
married Ruth McKenzie and she preceded him in death in 1993.
Mr. Cantrell moved to Ranger in 1941 and along with his wife,
Sarah, owned and operated the Cantrell Texaco Station and the
El Rancho Motel. Mr. Cantrell was also employed with the Texas
Pipeline Company, now known as Texaco Company, for 20 years.
He was very active in the Ranger community serving as Water,
Street, Finance, and Police Commissioner, as well as serving
on the Ranger City Council, two-terms as Mayor, Board of
Regents at Ranger College, Hospital Board at Ranger General
Hospital, Chamber of Commerce Board Member, & voted Outstanding
Citizen of the Year. Mr. Cantrell was a 32nd degree Mason AF
& AM Ranger Lodge #738 and a Shriner. He was a member of the
First Baptist Church in Ranger.
Survivors at the time of his death include two sons, Jimmy
Cantrell (RHS-1953) and wife, Martha (RHS-1954), of Sugar
Land and Jerry Cantrell (RHS-1957) & wife, Jane, of Sherman;
one daughter, Diana Cantrell (RHS-1961) and husband, John
Henderson of Lewisville; wife, Sara Kirpatrick Cantrell of
Arlington; six grandchildren, Sheryl Adamcik and husband,
Steve, of Houston, Brian Cantrell and wife, Kelley of Katy,
TX, Jeff Cantrell and wife, Carolyn, of Frisco, TX, Jerel
Cantrell and wife, Suzanna, of McKinney, TX, Mark Henderson
and wife, Trish, of Corinth, TX, Michael Henderson of Plano,
TX; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Cantrell was preceded
in death by his parents, John and Ruth (Wright) Cantrell;
wife Sarah Jane; and wife Ruth McKenzie.
