GERALD H. BAGWELL, 84, of Eastland, TX passed
away on March 19, 2019, with burial in the Texas
Veterans Cemetery near Killeen TX.
Gerald was born Jan. 30, 1935 in Pampa TX to Holman
M. & Evelyn (Atkinson) Bagwell. He graduated from
Ranger High School in the Class of 1953 at Ranger,
TX, attended Texas Tech, TCU and North Texas State
University earning degree's with 2 Master's and a
PHD. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy
serving in Naval Intelligence. Gerald married Janice
Stepan in Nov. of 1962 at Irving, TX. He was a Regional
Manager for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and was part owner
of Bagwell Dodge Dealership. He was a Baptist and
a member of the Eastland Gun Club.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brother,
Eugene Bagwell (RHS-1957); and nephew, Gary.
He is survived by his wife, Jan of Eastland; daughter,
Kelley Everett of Houston; granddaughter, Kaelin
Everett; and several nieces and nephews.
WIFE: JANICE ANN STEPAN BAGWELL, 83, of
Eastland, TX passed peacefully from this life on Oct. 27,
2021 at her home, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at
Ranger, TX.
Janice was born on June 3, 1938 to Anton Stepan & Ann
Pauline Bobence in Soudan, MN. She was a graduate of
Tower-Soudan High School and McConnell Airline School.
She worked for Continental Airlines in Chicago, where
she met her love, Gerald Bagwell. They married in Irving,
TX in 1962 and had one daughter, Kelley. They settled
in Euless, TX until 1972, then spent the next ten years
in Lubbock, TX. In 1982, they moved to Eastland, TX
where Jan was employed & retired from Eastland National
Bank where she was a bank teller and mainly worked the
drive-through. Her line was often long, as people waited
for her cheerful greeting & beautiful smile. Her outgoing
upbeat personality would make your day. She never met at
stranger! Jan was proud of her Slavic heritage and loved
her Polka Music! Her beauty was obvious from the outside,
but her inner beauty is what made Jan special. She was
a selfless, loving wife, mother and friend. She was a
member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Jan will be missed by many. Jan’s final words to all is
“HAVE FUN and PLAY POLKA!”
She was preceded in death by her husband: Gerald.
She is survived by her daughter: Kelley Bagwell Everett
and husband Dell, of Galveston; brother: Tony Stepan
and wife, Cindy of Killeen; one grandchild: Kaelin Adell
Everett; and cousins, nephews, and niece.
