JOE WAYNE "SKIPPER" HARPER, 62, was born in
Ranger, TX on Jan. 17, 1939, and was in the
Ranger High School Class of 1957. He was the
son of Emily Louise Jenkins and Joe Bailey
Harper (RHS-1933). Skipper died on Feb. 15,
2001.
Skipper married Carol Ann Meeks in September of
1962, and adopted her son, John Taylor Harper.
He graduated from The University of Texas School
of Pharmacy in 1963, they had their 1st daughter,
Julia Ann, in 1963, their 2nd daughter, Nanette
Leah, was born in 1964 and their 3rd daughter,
Renee Louise, was born in 1969. After owning
and running his own pharmacies for years he began
working for the State of Texas, Long Term Care
Regulatory in 1991. He made surprise inspections
of state funded nursing homes around the state
to insure the proper care and medication of our
elderly. He felt he had found something that
made a real difference in the lives of many
people. Skipper loved to snow ski, cook, was
self-taught in computer programming and loved
Texas.
He was survived by his wife of 29 years, Carol,
his son John Harper, daughter-in-law Pamela and
grandchildren Ashley and Dustin of Taylor, TX,
daughter Julia Robbins, son-in-law Ron and grand-
children James, David and Katherine of Cedar Park,
Texas, daughter Nanette Harper and grandson Zachary
Wayne of Cedar Park, TX, and daughter Renee' Harper
and future son-in-law Randall Payne of Austin, TX.
Also surviving are his brother, Charles Harper
(RHS-1960) of Rockport, TX, his brother Thomas
Harper & sister-in-law Brenda Harper of Buda, TX,
and many cousins, nieces &nephews.
