LUCIA ANA "LUCY" FLORES CADENA, 74, of Bay City, MI,
passed away June 14, 2014, with interment at the Floral
Gardens Cemetery.
She was born to the late Simplicio and Anna Flores in
Ranger, TX and was preceded in death by Jesus, her
loving husband of 58 years. Lucy attended Ranger High
School in the Class of 1958 (7th grade) before moving
to Michigan.
Lucy has always been an educator, instilling the love
of reading to her children by taking weekly trips to
the local libraries. After raising her family, she
returned to her studies and earned her Bachelors and
Masters of Education from Saginaw Valley State University.
She taught elementary education for the Bay City Public
Schools, where she continued inspiring more children to
learn until her retirement in 2006. As a young mother,
she perfected her skills as a seamstress making beautiful
clothes for her daughters and in later years, sewing
wonderful aprons as gifts that adorn many family members
and friends. Over the years, Lucy and Jesus traveled all
over the United States visiting their children and were
fortunate to take trips to Europe where she marveled over
the castles in Spain.
At the time of her death, Lucy was survived by her six
children, Sylvia (Blair) Woody, Virginia Cadena, Lucy
(Gerald) Backus, Celia (David) Staudacher, Rebecca (Mark)
Glave, Jesse (Jeannette) Cadena, and stepson, Raymond
(Linda) Cadena; 18 grandchildren: Eric Woody, Alex Woody,
Marisa Cadena, Nick Belski, Megan Donaldson, Trae Donaldson,
Tayler Donaldson, Cliff Kusmierz, Karsyn Backus, Hunter
Backus, Matthew Staudacher, Christopher Staudacher, Mark
Zachary Glave, Sarah Glave, Jesse Joseph Cadena, Jillian
Jan Cadena, Raelynn Cadena, Lucy Tello, and a great-grand-
child, Julianna Tello.
She is survived by her brothers, Robert (Denise) Flores,
Ross (Dorothy) Flores, Edward Flores, Arthur (Kathy) Flores
and sisters: Elisa (Arturo) Camacho (RHS-1947), Natividad
(Dan) Owen, and Carol Richardson (RHS-1956).
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Richard Flores
and Martha Velasquez, and sister-in-law, Wanda Flores and
brother-in-law Fernando Velasquez.
HUSBAND: JESUS "JESSE" CAVAZOS CADENA, 82, passed away
February 18, 2014, with burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery,
with military rites.
He was born to the late Jesus and Maria Cadena in Luling,
TX. Jesus served as a paratrooper in the 187th airborne
regimental combat team's 3rd battalion with the US Army
during the Korean War. As a young man, he trained as a boxer
and played baseball and continued as an umpire for local
communities. Jesus was a talented musician who shared his
love of music with countless others in his role as Choir
Director for over 40 years at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
He retired in 1986 after a long career with General Motors
to spend his later years perfecting his bowling techniques
and caring for his grandchildren.
At the time of his death, Jesus was survived by his loving
wife Lucia Ana Flores; his seven children, Raymond (Linda)
Cadena, Sylvia (Blair) Woody, Virginia Cadena, Lucy (Gerald)
Backus, Celia (David) Staudacher, Rebecca (Mark) Glave, and
Jesus (Jeannette) Cadena; eighteen grandchildren: Raelynn
Cadena, Lucy Tello, Eric Woody, Alexander Woody, Marisa
Cadena, Nicholaus Belski, Megan Donaldson, Trae Donaldson,
Tayler Donaldson, Cliff Kusmierz, Karsyn Backus, Hunter
Backus, Matthew Staudacher, Christopher Staudacher, Mark
Zachary Glave, Sarah Glave, Jesse Joseph Cadena and Jillian
Jan Cadena; and a great-grandchild, Julianna Tello. Jesus
is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Patricio (Ana),
Juan (Marta), Manuel (Herminia), Anita Lopez, Guadalupe Reyna,
brother-in-law Carlos Zamora, & sister-in-law Frances Cadena.
He was preceded in death by his brother Felix and sisters
Catarina Zamora, Maria Vasquez and Carmen (Clem) Godina.
