DAVID "DAVE" WHARTON, 80, was born on Nov. 28,
1939 to J.E. (RHS-1927) & Dorothy Dodd (RHS-1934)
Wharton in Ranger, TX and passed away on Nov. 25,
2020.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and
friends. He grew up in Ranger playing all sports.
He excelled in football being on a 1st team all-
state as a running back. David attended Ranger
High School in the Class of 1958. He went to
Hardin-Simmons on a full scholarship and was
coached by the legendary Sammy Baugh. After
college he joined the U.S. Army and was honorably
discharged as a 1st Lt. Dave was also on the Fort
Hood post football team. After discharge from the
Army, he came to the Dallas area and went to work
for State Farm insurance company. He retired from
State Farm after 33 years' service.
He was preceded in death by son, Matthew Wharton
and brother, Jerry Von Wharton (RHS-1956).
He is survived by sons, Christopher and Randy
Wharton, wife Janice and her daughters, Evelyn
Linville and Susan Dodge, granddaughter, Emily
Wharton, and grandsons, Kyle and Gage Linville.
Dave's body gave out, but not his mind.
Dave will be laid to rest at DFW National Cemetery.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, Dec. 7,
2020 at 11:30AM.
