DENA ROY CRAWLEY CORNELIUS, 76, passed
away on March 13, 2018, with burial in New Gordon
Cemetery at Gordon, TX.
Dena was born March 21, 1941 in Kokomo, TX to Roy
& Modell Crawley. She attended Ranger High School
in the Class of 1959 at Ranger, TX. Dena married
the love of her life, Clif Cornelius, in 1982 and
they had many happy years together. She was a
dedicated purchasing agent for 27 years at A.V.W.
Audio/Visual. When she retired in 2002, they moved
out to Gordon and became members of the United
Methodist Church of Santo. She will be greatly
missed by all who knew her.
Dena was preceded in death by her parents; brother,
Jimmy Crawley; sister, Billie Jo Craddock; and best
friends, Gina Mueller, Marie Vasquez, Donna Blount,
and Pat Ebbens.
Survivors include husband, Clif Cornelius; daughters,
Beverlie Dowell, Cindy Gensler, and Jody MacDonald;
grandchildren, Casey Gailley, Monty Turley, Neely
Turley, Blake MacDonald, and Kelsey MacDonald; great-
grandchildren, Victoria and Vanessa Turley; sister,
Beverlie Crawley Phariss (RHS-1953); and many nieces,
nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
FATHER: ROY CRAWLEY passed away in Gorman, TX,
in 1981. He had lived & worked in Ranger at the Ranger
Jr. College, where he and his wife, Modell Woods
Crawley, managed the college cafeteria. Their son,
Jimmie Crawley, who graduated high school in Gorman,
attended Ranger Jr. College in 1948-1950 where he
lettered in football and basketball. Jimmie Crawley
was killed in action during the Korean Conflict.
Other children were three daughters, Beverlie Crawley
Phariss (RHS-1953), Dena Roy Crawley Cornelius (RHS-
1959), and Billie Joe Crawley. He was the brother of
Alvin Crawley, longtime Ranger resident & postmaster
and also a brother to Newton Christopher Crawley, once
of Ranger and Gorman. Modell Crawley resides in Gorman
at the time of his death.
MOTHER: MODELL WOOD CRAWLEY died Dec. 28
of a massive heart attack at her home in Gorman, with
burial in the Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger, TX.
Mrs. Crawley was born Oct. 10, 1911 in Eastland County
to Ben F. Wood & Veda Hagar Wood. She married Roy Brown
Crawley in Nov. of 1927 in the Kokomo Community. He
preceded her in death in 1981. She was a seamstress,
homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist
Church. She had lived in this area all of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jimmie
Max Crawley in 1952 in Korea; a brother, Dick Wood; &
a sister, Bessie Jennings.
Survivors at the time of her death are three daughters,
Billie Jo Craddock of Sundown, Beverlie Phariss of Haskell
and Dena Roy Cornelius of Coppell; six grandchildren;
12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
BROTHER: JIMMIE MAX CRAWLEY graduated from Gorman
High School in 1948. He attended Ranger Jr. College
in the fall of 1948 and graduating in 1950. He lettered
in both football & basketball and was vice president of
the Peregrinity Club in 1949-50. He was killed in action
on Oct. 15, 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was the son
of Roy & Modell Woods Crawley who managed the Ranger Jr.
College Cafeteria for a number of years. He had three
sisters, Beverlie Ann Crawley Phariss (RHS-1953), Dena Roy
Crawley Cornelius (RHS-1961) and Billie Joe Crawley. His
father is now deceased and his mother, Modell, resides in
Gorman.
