SUE CANTWELL WATKINS, 76, of Eastland, TX passed
away Sept. 29, 2019 in Abilene, TX.
Sue was born Feb. 4, 1943 in Ranger, TX to Robert
Lee Cantwell & Victoria Neva (Wilson) Cantwell. She
graduated from Ranger High School in the Class of
1961 and attended Cisco Jr. College. She married
Keith Watkins in July of 1972 at Cross Plains. She
worked for Eastland Memorial Hospital in several
capacities for 40 years, retiring from their HR
department. She was an associate member of the
Eastland County Retired Teacher's Association,
and attended Community Bible Study. Sue was a
member of the First United Methodist Church where
she served on numerous committees including Com-
munion Steward, and Kitchen Committee where she
helped serve countless meals for different occasions.
She loved watching nature and everything outdoors;
especially raising flowers, and taking care of her
cats, dogs & horses. She & Keith enjoyed going on
horseback fishing trips in Colorado.
She is survived by her husband, Keith; multiple
cousins; and many dear friends.
HUSBAND: KEITH WATKINS, 77 of Eastland, TX passed
away on Jan. 24, 2022.
Keith was born Feb. 28, 1944 in Gorman, TX to Jack
Watkins & Clauda Mae (Anderson) Watkins. He grew up
in the Cross Plains area where he graduated high
school in 1962. He received a BS in Business from
Tarleton State University in 1965 and went on to
receive a Master’s Degree in Education and his
Superintendents Certification. He married the love
of his life, Sue Cantwell (RHS-1961), in July of
1972 at Cross Plains. She preceded him in death in
2019. He was also preceded in death by a brother,
Don Watkins. Keith became Principal of Eastland
High School during the 1979-1980 school year, and
served as Superintendent from 1985-2000.
He was Past President of the Eastland’s Retired
Teachers Association, and on the Board of Directors
Region 14 Educational Service Center. He was a member
of the First United Methodist Church in Eastland and
was a member of the Eastland Masonic Lodge #467 for
51 years, where he was a Past Master, served as
Treasurer, and had received the Golden Trowel Award.
He received the Golden Deed Award from the Eastland
Chamber of Commerce in 2003.
Survivors include a brother, Terry Watkins; numerous
cousins, and countless friends and former students
who loved him.
