RUTH BELEN LOPEZ PORTALATIN, 80, of Mesquite, TX,
passed away Oct. 18, 2012. She retired from AT&T/
Lucent Technologies after 28 yrs. in 1995 as a quality
assurance technician.
She was born January 26, 1932 in Barranquitas, Puerto
Rico as the youngest daughter of Custodio Lopez and
Juanita Rivera Lopez. She graduated from the Baptist
High School in Barranquitas and the University of
Puerto Rico in San Juan. Ruth raised three children
primarily by herself, drawing her strength from her
deep faith in Jesus Christ.
Ruth was a warm, friendly woman who was active in many
organizations and lived a life of service helping many
people: personally, by her volunteer work, and by prayer.
She is survived by her sons, Mory Portalatin Jr. of
Plano and Woody Portalatin of Garland; daughter, Mayra
Mitchell of Fort Worth; granddaughters Valerie and
Evelyn Mitchell of Maui, Hawaii; brother and sister-
in-law, Angel C. and Julia Lopez, and brother, Antonio
Lopez, all of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and sister, Judith
Lopez of New York City. She also leaves behind dearly
loved nieces and nephews and many dear friends who
filled her life with joy.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters,
Ana Luisa Lopez and Eva Iris Lopez, and ex-husband,
Morylant Portalatin Sr.
