DR. MARIA DAROCHA, 76, died April 7, 2000
at Waco, TX following a lengthy illness.
She was born on June 20, 1923 in Rio de Janerio,
Brazil to Joao daRocha and Marietta Pereira
daRocha. She attended school in Rio & received
the Associate degree from the Baptist Institute
of Training for Women. She received a BS degree
from Texas Wesleyan University and then returned
to Brazil to become Vice-Director of the Baptist
Institute for Women.
She came to the United States and received her
Masters Degree in Religious Education from South-
western Baptist Theological Seminary and continuing
her education she received Masters Degree in History
and Spanish at Texas Tech University. In 1985 she
earned her Ph D in History and Spanish from Texas
Tech University.
Dr. daRocha was a Professor of History and Spanish
at Ranger College, Ranger, TX for some 24 years
retiring in 1993. She was a member of First Baptist
Church in Ranger, AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the
Garden Club. She had two sisters and one brother
residing in Brazil.
