JEWELL SMITH TIBBELS died on Sept. 4, 1993 at Abilene,
TX, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger, TX.
Mrs. Tibbels, daughter of Harry R. & Margaret Collins
Smith, was born March 25, 1906, in Brazos, TX, Palo
Pinto County. She attended school in Mingus & Ranger.
She married Fred Tibbels in 1935. He preceded her in
death, after 34 years of marriage, in 1969. Her first
husband, Ernest Clyde Gray, Sr., who died of a ruptured
appendix, a son, Billy Joe "Bill" Gray (RHS-1943), and
her parents also preceded her in death. She had been
employed as a cook in the cafeteria at Ranger Junior
College and both Hodges and Young schools in Ranger.
Survivors at the time of her death include three sons,
Ernest Gray, Jr., H.R. "Pete" Tibbels and Charles "Toad"
Tibbels. Three daughters, Billie Jo Tibbels Newsom, Norma
Jo Gray Gordon (RHS-1943) and Sandra Tibbels Welch. At
the time of her death she had 18 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.
