TGIF's Black Bean and Cheese Dip

15 oz. can drained black beans
1 tsp oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup diced tomatoes
1/3 cup picante sauce
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/4 cup shredded Montery-Jack cheese
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1 Tbsp fresh lime juice

Place beans in bowl and mash partially. Saute onion and garlic in oil about 2 minutes over low heat, until tender. Add beans, tomato, picante sauce, cumin, and chili powder. Cook about 5 minutes on low heat until thick. Remove from heat: add cheese, cilantro, and lime juice. Stir well. Serve warm with chips.

Cook's Note: to make dip more spicy, use hot picante sauce and add 1 Tbsp fresh jalapeno, chopped into the onion and garlic mixture.
