Basic New York Water Bagels
1-1/8 cups water
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 Tbsp malt syrup, molasses, or white sugar
1 tsp salt
3-1/3 cups flour
2 tsp Active dry yeast
Load into machine as per manufacturer's instructions and process on dough cycle.
Here are the basic bagel instructions
1. Shape bagels: Form dough into the traditional bagel shape by rolling, poking a hole in a ball or usung a bagel cutter.
2. Second rise: Allow a short rest and second rise period, about 20 minutes.
3. Boil or "kettle": Drop bagels into boiling water for 1 to 3 minutes and drain. You can bake immediately or refrigerate for 1 to 24 hours.
4. Glaze and apply topping: This step is NOT essantial to the final product.
5. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 400*F for 20-25 minutes or until tops are golden brown.
Note: This recipe is for a 1 1/2 pound bread machine pan
