1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup warm water (105-110°F)
2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening
2 pkg yeast
4 1/2 - 5 cups flour

Mix together milk, sugar and salt. Soak yeast in water for 5 minutes without stirring. Then stir well and add to milk mixture. Stir in eggs, shortening and flour.

Knead and let rise twice. Shape into 3" squares 1/2" thick. Place desired filling on each, fold corners to center and pinch together. Let rise 30-40 minutes. Brush with melted butter and bake at 400° for 20-25 minutes. Filling can be seasonal fruit, 4-6 cups with desired spices. (I like to use Italian plums, pitted and a good dash of sugar and cinnamon)

Cook's Note: These are sooooo awesome~ They are great to make ahead and have in the freezer incase you have drop by company. Just warm in the oven for about 10 min.
