Candy Cane Cookies
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp peppermint flavoring
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
Candy cane mixture:
1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
1/2 cup sugar
Mix together and set aside.
Mix first 5 ingredients together. Sift flour and salt and stir in. Color 1 batch with ½ tsp red coloring. Mix another batch. Roll 1 tsp from each batch into 4" strips. Place the strips side by sid and press lightly together and twist. On an ungreased cookie sheet, curve like a cane. Bake 9 minutes at 375°F. While still warm sprinkle with peppermint candy mixture.
Yield: 4 dozen
