Colonial Pumpkin Bars

3/4 cup butter
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1 (16 ounce) can pumpkin
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 (3 ounce) package, cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
3 cups sifted powdered sugar

1. Butter and flour one 10x15 inch baking pan. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. In a mixing bowl, whip together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, pumpkin and mix well.

3. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Add to pumpkin mixture and stir in walnuts.

4. Spread mixture onto baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool and cover with vanilla frosting.

5. To prepare frosting, combine cream cheese, butter and vanilla until well blended. Gradually add sugar, mixing well after each addition.
