San Antonio Metropolitan Transit Authority
(also known as, doing business as 'VIA Metropolitan Transit')

The San Antonio Metropolitan Transit Authority, doing business as 'VIA Metropolitan Transit,' is not a department of the City of San Antonio and is not a corporation. It was haphazardly created with Texas legislative revisions; i.e., 'VIA' is subject to review under the Texas Sunset Act.

The Sunset law was enacted to provide for the periodic review of the efficiency and effectiveness of state agency operations and policies.

Sunset is a process where three things must happen. First, a state agency must prove to the Legislature that it is needed. Second, legislation must be passed to continue the agency. Third, the Governor must approve the legislation. Unless these things occur, the agency is automatically abolished and the "sun sets" on its operations.

If 'VIA' has not gone through the above three steps.. it automatically must be abolished!
