The first Caliphs*
ruled Babylonia as part of the province of Kûfa,
keeping for practical purposes the administrative
districts of the Sassanian Empire- they are tolerant
of Judaism and Christianity, as well as the Mandæans
and Harranians, who each claimed to be the "Sabæans"
of the Qur'an, i.e. Sura 5:69
