A Day In My Life

Regurgitating Birds

Well! Doesn't that just say it all? Yes, folks, right in my own backyard too. Just like National Geographic but all close up and stuff. Plus! I was checking this out with my binoculars - so picture it... Texas...

Our first cloudy day ( still 90 tho ) in about six weeks. This makes it easier to see the grey colored birds against the grey and brown burnt grass that we jokingly refer to as the "yard". So I was looking through the binoculars and saw two adult mourning doves fly down and land in the crunchy "yard" or "desert territory" as Dave likes to call it -- and start pecking for flies and ants and yummies

such as that when their youngin birdie flew down and tried to perch in the aloe vera plant - but couldn't get a foot hold. Soon, it was smart enough to fly on out to the grass (haha) with the older birds. Either two females or one male and female, but they looked the same. The adult birds had beautiful big black eyes and a thin ring of skyblue around them, orange-red feet and tan colored chests with grey wings and back with small black spots.

The baby was mostly grey with lots of spots. This little booger would only give the older birds about 10 seconds to gather their food before it was up in their faces with its beek poking and prodding and forcing the REGURTITATION process. First one bird then the other. I mean its little beak must have been choking the adult bird as far down as it went.

Poo-Pie

Or wait, maybe thats the idea. A little barfing ritual dance they do also while this happens. They get the rhythm going together while the baby bird gets all the bugs the parents just ate and I'm thinking... Holy Moly!!! talk about binging and purging! These turkies have this down to an art form!

Up close and personal too I was. Binoculars, and I was only about 15 feet away. As I looked up into the sky I said to myself, "God... thank you for this day and for your wonderous creations in this world that make me say.. whoaa!!! Far OUT man!".

And so goes another day in the life of Xtrema... just thought I'd share ;)
