RoboCop

I may be dumb, but I just don't get the appeal of this movie. It's so... dumb. I dunno. Judge for yourself.

It's the not-too-distant future (probably the Year 2000). Society is pretty normal, with the exception of a stupid TV show with some guy )surrounded by women in bikinis) saying, "I'd buy that for a dollar!" Then people laugh. I guess I don't get it. Anyway, there's that, Leeza Gibbons hosting the news, and a trend of industrial 80's New Wave music. Most importantly, though, is the fact that crime is rampant all over Old Detroit with Red Forman as the big drug kingpin. Not only that, but the city can't afford to fund the police force. In fact, there's a police strike coming up. More on this after the commercial.

(Commercial break)

Where was I? Oh yeah. The city can't fund the police, so, in a move that is highly illegal and blatently unconstitutional, they sell the police department to the highest bidder. They're gonna clean up this town. In fact, they just finished the prototype of machine that will help them do it. It's called ED 2900. It's a large robot with big guns, and it's prepared to uphold the law. There's one problem, though. When the guy from OEC (I think) demonstrates it, it accidentally riddles a guy with bullets. Just a little glitch. Fortunately, some up-and-coming OEC guy uses this opportunity to get his project approved. His project is called the RoboCop project.

So, they find a recently killed cop (who was brutally murdered by Red Forman and his gang) and make him into a Cyborg. Part man, part machine, all cop. RoboCop hits the streets and fights crime, etc. Then he starts to remember things from when he was alive. He hunts down Red Forman and his gang, and there's a big fight. Everyone but Red, a few other key guys, and Robo is killed, and Red confesses. Not only that, but he reveals the true mastermind behind the whole thing. It's the guy frome OEC. The guy who designed ED 9408.

RoboCop has a mission. He remembers his past (kinda) and is out for revenge. He finds the OEC guy and tries to arrest him. The OEC guy tells him that he killed the guy who designed RoboCop, and he also informes Robo of a secret directive. He can't do anything against anyone from OEC. Well, this spells disaster. Now RoboCop is malfunctioning, and who's behind door number 1? It's ED 7854! RoboCop gets his metal butt handed to him and finally escaped down the stairs. ED 2438 tried to follow, but ED 3523's feet are too big for stairs, so it falls and can't get up.

RoboCop meets up with his old partner, and they prepare for the final showdown. A bunch of bad guys die, and RoboCop's partner kills Red. Now, it's time to take care of the main bad guy. RoboCop interrupts a board meeting and tells everyone about the OEC guy's dastardly plan. He even plays back a murder confession. The OEC guy gets fired, and RoboCop kills him. Someone asks RoboCop what his name is, and he says, "Murphy."

How touching. By touching, of course, I mean stupid, messy, and predictable.
