This was one of the movies from that set of bad horror flicks I borrowed from Emily. It starts off with this guy biting his wife and chasing her around town in the middle of the night. The wife looked exactly like one of the prostitutes in Grand Theft Auto 3. Eventually, he finds her and kills her.
Some time passes, and the guy, whose name is Trent, is working as a handyman for some restaurant/inn/butcher shop/something in the middle of nowhere. The guy who owns the place has a daughter (Pearl) and a stepdaughter (Ruby) who work there. They both like him. Oddly enough, he's the only major character in the movie who doesn't get any. Anyway, Trent's wife (Jade) shows up with some other guy, and they hint very strongly at the fact that they're werewolves. Then they leave. The stepdaughter's boyfriend-type guy (Angus) also shows up, and he doesn't like this Trent fellow one bit. Angus is also into autoerotic asphyxiation. That has nothing to do with the movie, but they felt the need to show us anyway. Thanks.
After a gratuitous sex scene between Pearl and Ruby, the plot comes along. It turns out people are dying, being brutally mangled by an animal, it seems. Trent is having trouble with all this because he's a werewolf, and he can never remember what happens when he changes. So, anyway, Angus gets destroyed, and Ruby disappears. The townfolk are all up in arms, and Pearl wants to help Trent. There's also a really compelling subplot about Trent's past, and a whole bunch of mystery about something that gives the movie a whole new level of depth. At this point, I was actually expecting it to be a little low-budget gem, but I kept my expectations in line, and reminded myself that it probably won't come together in the end.
I was right. Ruby joined the werewolves, and they were responsible for the killings. The townfolk kill the werewolves, Pearl kills Trent after he puts on a horrible wolf mask, and Ruby kills Pearl in the end.
Aside from the cheap production value, the movie actually showed promise. After all, there's only so much you can do with $500. The acting was bad. The sound was horrible. The story could have been pretty good if they had bothered to tie it together. There is one thing about this movie I really liked, though, and it's not what you'd expect. There's a sequence in it where Angus and Ruby are out hiking, trying to find this secluded spot in the middle of nowhere. Anyway, the scenery there is just gorgeous. I love it. It's one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a film. Other than that, the movie sucked.
