Interview with the Vampire
Interview with the Vampire is based on the first book from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. * It is the story of a vampire's life. Louis tells his story to a young report that makes a living collecting people's stories. The story begins in New Orleans. His wife and child have just died and he is looking for a way to join them. He is approached by a vampire, Lestat. Lestat tells him, "I'm going to give you the choice I never had." Louis accepts the dark gift but soon finds out that he is worse off now then he was before. He is tormented nightly by the thought of killing humans. Lestat fears that Louis is going to leave him. He turns a girl, Claudia, that Louis had fed off of in order to keep him close. Lestats plan works for some time. Claudia becomes like a daughter to Louis. However, she soon tires of him as well and attempts to kill him, twice. Claudia and Louis flee to the old world in search of others of their kind. While searching Europe, they find a coven of vampires who perform in The Theatre des Vampires. "Vampires pretending to be humans pretending to be vampires." The leader of the troupe, Armand, soon falls in love with Louis and wishes to keep him as a student. When she gets the feeling that Louis is going to leave her, Claudia forses him to make her a new companion, Madeline. However, when the coven believes Claudia has killed Lestat, the leave her and Madeline in the sunlight and lock Louis in a wall. Louis breaks free only to learn that Claudia has been killed and Armand knew about it but did not try to help her. He returns to his wandering Europe. When he returns to America in modern times, he finds Lestat, shriveled and scared. He begs Louis to join him but Louis refuses. The movie then goes back to the reporter. He has heard the story and believes that this creature before him is looking for a companion. Louis becomes enraged and attacks the man. He flees with his life and the tape wit the story in hand. He speeds away only to find Lestat, healed and ready to feed, hiding in his back seat. The movie ends with Lestat's famed words. "I'm going to give you the choice I never had."
*Any fan of of Anne Rice will tell you that the writers of this movie botched the book.
