Christopher Lee was born on May 27, 1922, in London England. He started his career as an actor when he was signed with J. Arthur Rank. Throughout his career, he performed in over 130 movies. Lee appeared before Draula as another horror figure, Frankenstein, in Frankenstein and The Curse of Frankenstein. He appeared again with his costars from The Curse of Frankenstein, Terence Fisher, Jimmy Sangster, and Peter Cushing, in the movie The Horror of Dracula. The first well known Dracula after Lugosi, Lee had one thing that his predicesor did not, Fangs. He did not return to the role of Dracula for years. Instead, he took on the role of a vampire in a comedic performance in Tempi duri per I Vampiri (Hard Times for Vampires. Lee returned to his role as Dracula five years later in Dracula, Prince of Darkness. This started a series of movies in which he portrayed the legendary vampire: Dracula Has Risen from the Grave, Taste the Blood of Dracula, The Scars of Dracula, Dracula A.D. 1972, and The Satanic Rites of Dracula (aka Count Dracula and His Vampire Brides. Lee believed that his role in these movies was straying too far from Bram Stoker's book (ex: in Dracula Has Risen from His Grave he pulled a stake from his heart, something which Stoker's character could not do.) Because of this, he was happy to take on the role fo dracula in Jesus franco's version, El Conde Dracula. Lee appeared in the final scene of Vampir, "in which he decribed Dracula's death and read the last chapter of the book. His last appearance as a vampire was in Dracula and Son. Although he swore off vampire movies, Lee described his life as the blood sucker in his autobiography, Tall, Dark, and Gruesome, and helped to create Christopher Lee's X. Certificate, Michael Parry's anthology of horror stories.
